Claude Fischler

CNRS

Socio-anthropologue

Claude Fischler is a French sociologist and anthropologist specializing in food behavior. A research director at the CNRS and former director of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Contemporary Anthropology (IIAC), he has been instrumental in establishing the legitimacy of the anthropology of food. He is the author of L’Omnivore: The Taste, the Cuisine and the Body (1990), which explores how taste, cooking, and the body have evolved in modern society. His work focuses on commensality — the act of eating together — and on how culture, technology, and public health issues shape our relationship with food. Through his interdisciplinary approach, he combines sociology, anthropology, and nutrition to better understand contemporary eating behaviors.
